Cloaca: Case Presentation and Multidisciplinary Approach

Dr. Belinda His Dickie, surgical director of the Hemangioma and Vascular Malformations Center, presents cloaca cases for discussion. Case 1 describes a newborn 34 week old female with a diagnosis of pelvic collection and hydropnephrosis by ultrasound. A unanimous diagnosis of hydrocolpos was established among the panel and various plans of action were discussed. Dr. Breech, Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, gives a presentation on hydrocolpos and includes the open drainage approach to hydrocolpos. Discussion among panel members included hydrocolpos management, interventional radiology, tubed versus open vaginostomy, intermediate catheterization, abdominal approach, EUA cystoscopy and vaginoscopy, trans-abdominal mobilization, urethra vaginal fistula, older cloaca's and changes in the common channel length, and total urogenital mobilization with extended inro-abdominal approach.
