Dr. Flake is an attending surgeon and director of the General Surgery Fellowship Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He begins the seminar with an overview of open fetal surgery. Dr. Flake discusses the prenatal diagnosis of an abnormal fetus, various anatomic defects and associated consequences, congenital pulmonary airway malformation prenatal classification (CPAM), bronchial atresia, thoracoamniotic shunt placement, macrocystic CPAM, fetal sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) resection, CHOP, EXIT procedure delivery, uterine placental bloodflow maintenance, congenital high airway obstruction procedure (CHAOS), and pericardial teratomas.
